Turnitin Service Alert
Update to June 27th service disruption:
On June 27th at about 5:00PM (US/Pacific) a human error caused an invalid update to be made to our DNS registration which directed all traffic for Turnitin.com to a domain parking an “under construction” website owned by Network Solutions, our domain registrar.
Unfortunately, all records of this type on the Internet are published with a 48-hour expiration, so DNS servers which looked up Turnitin.com between 5:00PM and 6:30PM on Saturday may have held onto these records until about 6:30PM Monday (US/Pacific), June 29th.
We contacted the ISPs we could reach and asked them to clear their caches to minimise the impact on users.
Users using a DNS server with these records cached will likely have experienced issues accessing our service until that time.
Although this change was related to a one-time company renaming process, we have instituted new change management processes in this area (with additional levels of review) to prevent a recurrence.
We greatly apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and now have steps in place to ensure a disruption like this will not occur again.
TurnitinUK.com was unaffected and was fully available during this time.
